Fine-tuned over many years working as a full-time, professional travel, humanitarian and editorial photographer, this collection of Lightroom resources represents the core tools of my post-production workflow.

Typically, I’m working to deadlines and need to produce images that are processed with consistency. These Lightroom brushes and presets will work in Lightroom 4, 5, 6 and CC. They’re designed to help me quickly bring my RAW files to life (but they work equally well with JPEG files).

Starting with exposure and tone adjustment tools, the Colour and Black & White Portrait Packs build a non-destructive and non-linear workflow. Each adjustment set works independently, providing a quick, simple and consistent way to process portrait images.

What’s in the Bundle

1. Colour Portrait Pack: Presets & Brushes for Adobe Lightroom

3This pack of over 130 Development Presets and Local Adjustment Brushes has been designed specifically for bringing the best out of your colour portrait photographs. I’ve built and fine-tuned this processing pack over several years and I employ them on an almost daily basis for my assignment work for editorial and NGO clients. Having a reliable processing workflow has also allowed me to maintain a consistent approach with my stock photography work, something that has proved its value many times over.

Includes presets for global control:

  • Exposure Pack to control tonal balance, shadows and highlights
  • ISO100 to ISO3200 grain simulation
  • Subtle to pronounced vignettes
  • Highlight and Shadow Toning control

Local Adjustment Brushes and Filters

  • Exposure Pack
  • Skin smoothing
  • Reduce Wrinkles
  • Eye whites, teeth whitening and “Iris Bump”

The combination of global presets and local adjustment filters combine to give the photographer a virtually infinite number of possibilities.

Includes installation instructions.

NOTE: Not all presets are supported in Lightroom 4. Version 5 and above is recommended.

110313-ShopifyThis pack of over 130 Development Presets and Local Adjustment Brushes has been designed specifically for creating monochrome portraits.

Includes presets for global control:

  • Exposure Pack to control tonal balance, shadows and highlights
  • Coloured filters
  • ISO100 to ISO3200 grain simulation
  • Antique and shadow vignettes
  • Sepia and Selenium toning
  • Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter toning
  • Infrared Portrait simulation

Local Adjustment Brushes and Filters

  • Exposure Pack
  • Skin smoothing
  • Reduce Wrinkles
  • Eye whites, teeth whitening and “Iris Bump”

NOTE: Not all presets are supported in Lightroom 4. Version 5 and above is recommended.

3. Kodachrome Film Emulation Pack

Kodachrome Product 3DI’ve written at some length about Kodachrome on my blog and the challenges faced when trying to build a reasonable digital emulation of the film.

You can only really create Kodachrome images by shooting Kodachrome film. Sadly, the film was discontinued several years ago and there’s nowhere left to process it.

However, I’ve been able to reverse engineer some digital values based upon calibrated Kodachrome slides. It’s taken some considerable time but I was able to build profiles for specific cameras which give processing emulations for Kodachrome 25 and Kodachrome 64.

About Gavin Gough

gavingoughGavin is a freelance travel and editorial photographer. Gavin works on assignment for editorial, commercial and NGO clients and has photographed in over 50 countries around the world.

His images have appeared on everything from postage stamps to billboards, in magazines, newspapers, guidebooks and advertising around the world, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian, Telegraph, Geo, National Geographic Traveler, Wanderlust, Lonely Planet and many more.

Gavin’s work is best characterised by this quote from an interview given to Digital Photographer magazine:

“As a travel photographer, my studio is the world outside my door and the only equipment required is a camera and a willingness to look for new perspectives. Lighting comes courtesy of whatever is available; sun, sky, tungsten and neon – travel photographers have access to it all. We are not restricted by subject or location, only by an obligation to record the world we see with honesty and compassion. More than just exotic locations and wild adventures, travel photography is about seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes and childlike enthusiasm.”

Gavin has led photographic workshops around the world and also created the SeedLight project, which aims to provide creative opportunities to children in disadvantaged communities.

Gavin’s work has won several awards, including the “Vanishing and Emerging Cultures” portfolio category in the 2013 Travel Photographer of the Year competition.
